GIL, Gilberto Alves Gomes, a visual artist from Sorocaba, discovered himself an artist at the age of seven, having participated in several group exhibitions of drawing and painting in the late 1970s.

 

In 1982, he participated in an exhibition at MASP - Museu de Arte de São Paulo, through the collective show “Nossa Gente-82”.

 

In parallel with artistic work, he developed a successful career in the corporate area for forty years, which ended in 2015 to dedicate himself exclusively to art.

 

From 2015 onwards, he spent several years under the guidance of artist Raquel Fayad and sculptors Cícero D'Ávila and Israel Kislansky, concentrating his artistic expression through sculpture, developing his skills in modelling, making molds and creating pieces in marble, ceramics, bronze, among other materials.

 

In 2019, among other group exhibitions, he was selected and participated with 19 other artists in the event FAMA - Means and Processes of Creation in Art, under the guidance of Katia Salvany, which resulted in the group exhibition of the same name at Fábrica de Arte Marcos Amaro – Itú , curated by Ana Carolina Ralston.

 

In 2020, he participated in the Artistic Monitoring Laboratory with the curator Allan Yzumizawa at SESC Sorocaba - SP and in several Art History courses with the artist Israel Kislansky, in addition to several artistic mentoring processes, having participated, in particular, in the first group of Systemic Artistic Mentorship of the artist Kátia Salvany.

In 2022, he participated in exhibitions at Fernanda Monteiro Galeria de Arte de Sorocaba - SP, with emphasis on the Coletiva SELVA_GEM: Alegoria da Terra em Movimento, where he presents his first group of works from the project Sculptural Performances, The Tree Woman - Sculptural Performance, inspired by the performance of artist Silvana Sarti.

 

in your project Sculptural Performances expresses, through sculptures, a synthesis of his look at the performances of various artists in the field of performance. During this creative process of interpretation, the works gain autonomy and independence, with the artist's own narrative and sculptural poetics.

 

Currently, he seeks to continue his Escultóricas Performances and works on the production of a project on the influence of social media and mass communications, always exploring issues of the body in contemporary times.
